Automatic installation

Automatic installation is the easiest option as WordPress handles the file transfers itself and you don’t even need to leave your web browser. To do an automatic install, log in to your WordPress admin panel, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New.

In the search field type “WP Event Manager” and click Search Plugins. Once you’ve found the plugin you can view details about it such as the the point release, rating and description. Most importantly of course, you can install it by clicking Install Now.

Manual installation

The manual installation method involves downloading the plugin and uploading it to your web server via your favorite FTP application.

  • Download the plugin file to your computer and unzip it

  • Using an FTP program, or your hosting control panel, upload the unzipped plugin folder to your WordPress installation’s wp-content/plugins/ directory.

  • Activate the plugin from the Plugins menu within the WordPress admin.

Getting started

Once installed:

  1. Create a page called “events” and inside place the [events] shortcode. This will list your events.

  2. Create a page called “submit event” and inside place the [submit_event_form] shortcode if you want front-end submissions.

  3. Create a page called “event dashboard” and inside place the [event_dashboard] shortcode for logged in users to manage their listings.

Note when using shortcodes, if the content looks blown up/spaced out/poorly styled, edit your page and above the visual editor click on the ‘text’ tab. Then remove any ‘pre’ or ‘code’ tags wrapping your shortcode.

How do I setup WP Event Manager?

View the getting installation and setup guide for advice getting started with the plugin. In most cases it’s just a case of adding some shortcodes to your pages!

Can I use WP Event Manager without frontend event submission?

Yes! If you don’t setup the [submit_event_form] shortcode, you can just post from the admin backend.

How can I customize the event submission form?

There are three ways to customize the fields in WP Event Manager;

  1. For simple text changes, using a localisation file or a plugin such as Say What.

  2. For field changes, or adding new fields, using functions/filters inside your theme’s functions.php file: Read more.

  3. Use a 3rd party plugin which has a UI for field editing.

How can I be notified of new events via email?

If you wish to be notified of new postings on your site you can use a plugin such as Post Status Notifier.

I asked some questions about the conference child theme. The supporter not only wrote answers but also made two videos for me explaining how to do. Amazing and fantastic!

As a paid customer of WP-eventmanager, I had several support queries. In each ticket submitted, I received expert support and personalised responses, leading to resolution with each of my issues. With my permission, WP-eventmanager support team carried out work on my WordPress installation and successfully fixed the problems. They also stayed in touch throughout the process. I would recommend this plugin, based on the support I received.

TLTR: I was 'forced' to use this plugin due to a customer request. It's the worst. The code quality is all over the place. If it works for your use case it's maybe fine - but don't even think about buying the addons. Positive: - I mean it's free - It's not dead in terms of updates. Some of them will break your wordpress - but I guess that's part of the game - Code quality is medium at best. Not sure if thats a positive but I've seen worse. Negative: - Code quality is all over the place. It's bad. And by bad I mean there are parts in the code that are just abandoned. You will find sometimes code that is suposed to do something, but then doesn't get called/used. If you fix this you end up with something that looks like it works, but then crucial parts break. It's like the developer had an idea and gave up half way because his code didn't work like he intended and then he just commented out a few lines to 'hide' the function instead of fixing or removing the code. - DB-Design isn't great either. A ton of stuff is not standard WP-Objects. This means that you will have problems with some plugins. - No support for the plugin itself - Plugin is making a ton of DB Queries/Entries - if you create a lot of events (and the recurring event addon for example will) then this will break your page if you use it on a cheap shared host. Dealbreaker: The plugin for itself does not have many features that will make it usable for my usecase. So I bought additional plugins from the vendor to add functionality. To make things clear: THIS RATING IS NOT BASED ON THOSE ADDONS. THE PLUGIN ITSELF IS BAD ENOUGH TO DESERVE THE 1 STAR REVIEW I think because of this I need to comment on the addons because without most of the features are missing and for many usecases you need those addons anyways. Positive: - Not to expensive - There is some sort of support. Negative: - Support casually closes support-tickets even tho they are not resolved. Sometimes it takes them months to answer and rarely you get a fix that works and if you do other things break. I am sure that this relates to the issues on the plugin itself (see above). - It simply does not work as advertised. Features are missing or won't work in combination with other features. So make sure you check before you buy. This is not exclusively on the addons itself but in combination with features from the basis-plugin and in combination with addon-features. Conclusion If you are not sure about this then try it out. If it works out of the box for you and the project isn't to important then great. Try it. But if you have important work or are by any means dependant on this then don't use it. Just don't. Save your time and do something else.

I face issues, they could fix the entire issue. In fact, they always reply when I need their support. I'm very happy to use their services.
