#### Connection to app.cookieyes.com & feedback.cookieyes.com

This plugin connects your site to app.cookieyes.com to enable features such as cookie
scanning, syncing settings with your CookieYes account, and showing scan results
and consent data in the dashboard. It also connects to feedback.cookieyes.com for
collecting feedback when the plugin is deactivated. See our [Privacy Policy](https://www.cookieyes.com/privacy-policy/)
and [Terms & Conditions](https://www.cookieyes.com/terms-and-conditions/) for details
on data collection and usage.

### The CookieYes GDPR Cookie Consent Plugin Uses The Following Cookie Only

 * “cookieyes-consent” – CookieYes sets this cookie to remember users’ consent preferences
so that their preferences are respected on their subsequent visits to this site.
It does not collect or store any personal information of the site visitors.

### Setup Guide

Our [WordPress cookie plugin user guide](https://www.cookieyes.com/documentation/install-cookieyes-wordpress-plugin/?utm_source=wordpress&utm_medium=plugin&utm_campaign=wordpress_page&utm_content=l_1&ref=WPCY)
will help you set up the plugin on your website.

### Set Up Your Cookie Banner With an AI Coding Assistant

CookieYes ships an AGENTS.md file, and a CLAUDE.md, in the plugin root. It gives
AI coding assistants an agent-readable setup flow, the regulation coverage map,
and a post-install verification checklist, so an assistant can install and configure
the cookie banner without being walked through each step. Point your assistant at
the plugin directory and ask it to set up CookieYes. It works with Claude Code,
Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, OpenAI Codex and any tool that follows
the AGENTS.md convention.

## FAQ

### What is GDPR cookie consent?

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is the EU privacy law that protects personal
data, known as DSGVO in German and RGPD in French and Spanish. Under GDPR and the
ePrivacy Directive, websites must obtain explicit consent before storing or accessing
non-essential cookies such as analytics and advertising cookies. A cookie notice,
also called a cookie banner, tells visitors that your site uses cookies, explains
why, and lets them accept or manage their cookie preferences.

### What is CCPA and what does it require?

The CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act, expanded by CPRA) gives California residents
control over their personal data. For websites this means informing users about
data collection, offering an opt-out such as a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal
Information” link, and handling user data securely. CookieYes also supports other
US state privacy laws including VCDPA, CPA, CTDPA and UCPA.

### What does this cookie plugin do?

CookieYes adds a cookie banner to your WordPress site, scans your site to find the
cookies it sets, blocks non-essential cookies until visitors consent, logs consent
for audits, and generates a Cookie Policy page. You can display your cookie list
on any page using a shortcode.

### How do I add a cookie banner to WordPress?

Install the CookieYes plugin (go to Plugins, then Add New, and search “CookieYes”),
then activate it. A cookie consent banner appears on your site immediately. You
can then customise the banner design and text, run a cookie scan, and generate a
Cookie Policy page. No coding is required.

### Do I need a cookie consent banner on my website?

If your website has visitors from the EU or EEA, the UK, Brazil, Canada, or US states
such as California, and it sets non-essential cookies (analytics, advertising, embedded
video), laws like GDPR, PECR, LGPD and CCPA/CPRA require you to inform visitors
and obtain or facilitate consent. Most WordPress sites set such cookies through
their theme, plugins or analytics tools. Consult a legal professional about your
specific obligations.

### How do I choose a cookie consent plugin for WordPress?

Look for automatic cookie blocking before consent, a cookie scanner that finds what
your site actually sets, Google Consent Mode v2 support, low performance impact,
consent logging for audit records, multilingual cookie banner support, and regular
updates. CookieYes includes all of these, with over 1 million active installations
and a 4.8-star rating on WordPress.org.

### Is CookieYes free? What does the free plan include?

Yes, there is a free plan. It includes a fully working cookie banner, automatic
cookie blocking, the cookie scanner, Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy generators,
consent logging, and Google Consent Mode v2. [See all plans and compare features](https://www.cookieyes.com/pricing/?utm_source=wordpress&utm_medium=plugin&utm_campaign=wordpress_page&utm_content=l_1&ref=WPCY)

### Will a cookie banner slow down my website?

CookieYes is built so it does not. Cookie scanning, consent logging and processing
run in the CookieYes cloud rather than in your WordPress database, so your site
is not carrying that work. The front end cookie banner script is lightweight and
adds no database queries on page load, and the plugin is compatible with major caching
plugins.

### Does the plugin block cookies before consent?

Yes. Non-essential cookies are blocked until a visitor gives explicit consent. Strictly
necessary cookies are allowed by default so your site keeps working. Visitors can
accept or reject cookies by category through the preference centre.

### What is Google Consent Mode v2 and does CookieYes support it?

Google Consent Mode v2 passes visitor consent signals to Google tags such as Google
Analytics 4, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager, so measurement adapts to each visitor’s
choices. It is required for using Google advertising features with EEA and UK visitors.
CookieYes supports Consent Mode v2 out of the box, and also supports Microsoft UET
Consent Mode and Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals.

### Does CookieYes work with WooCommerce, Elementor and page builders?

Yes. CookieYes works with WooCommerce, Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg, Contact Form
7 and WPForms out of the box, and passes consent signals to Google Tag Manager,
Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising (UET), Microsoft Clarity and
Meta Pixel. It also supports WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress for multilingual
sites, works with major caching plugins, and is optimised for PHP 8.

### How does the cookie scanner work?

The scanner crawls your site, finds the cookies it sets, and sorts them into categories
such as necessary, analytics, advertising and functional. Unknown cookies are classified
automatically using AI, so your cookie records, banner and Cookie Policy page stay
accurate without manual research. Premium plans add scheduled scans and scanning
behind login.

### Can I manage CookieYes with an AI assistant?

Yes, in two ways. The plugin ships AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files in its root, so
AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini
CLI and OpenAI Codex can read the setup flow and install, configure and verify the
plugin. Separately, the CookieYes MCP (Model Context Protocol) server connects AI
assistants to your CookieYes account, so you can check banner status, run a cookie
scan, review your configuration and update banner settings in natural language.

### What support does CookieYes offer?

Free users get support through the WordPress.org support forum, where the CookieYes
team actively resolves threads, along with a searchable knowledge base and documentation.
Premium plans include priority support.

### Can I customise the cookie banner?

Yes. Change the layout (top bar, bottom bar, box or cookie popup), edit every word
of the cookie notice including button labels, and set the position. The banner is
mobile responsive. Premium plans add custom colours and fonts, a custom logo, custom
CSS, and removal of the “Powered by CookieYes” branding.

### Does this plugin stop all cookies from being stored?

It blocks cookies based on the categories a visitor consents to. If another plugin
sets cookies outside of CookieYes, we cannot control or guarantee that behaviour.
Forcing every cookie to block could break your site, so the plugin balances consent
management with usability.

### Does CookieYes guarantee that I comply with GDPR?

No plugin can guarantee compliance. CookieYes helps you meet the cookie consent
requirements of major privacy laws, but you need to assess how your own site uses
cookies and configure the plugin correctly. For specialist legal advice, consult
a lawyer.

### Can I export consent records for audits?

Yes. The consent log records visitor consent and cookie preferences, and you can
export it in CSV format for audits and compliance records.

### Can the plugin generate a cookie policy?

Yes. A built-in generator creates Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy pages from your
own scan results, so the policy reflects the cookies your site actually sets. The
pages update automatically as your cookies change.

### Does CookieYes support multilingual websites?

Yes. The cookie banner translates automatically into 40+ languages based on the
visitor’s browser. CookieYes also works with WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress for
multilingual WordPress sites.

### Is CookieYes suitable for large websites, multisite or agencies?

Yes. CookieYes includes subdomain consent sharing, multi-user roles and permissions,
scheduled scans and scanning behind login, which suit large and enterprise sites.
Agencies can also join the CookieYes partner program.

### Does CookieYes integrate with WP Consent API?

Yes. CookieYes integrates with the [WP Consent API](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-consent-api),
sharing consent states with other compatible plugins so consent is handled consistently
across your site.

### What is a CMP?

A CMP (Consent Management Platform) collects, manages and stores visitor consent
for cookies and tracking. CookieYes is a CMP built for WordPress, covering the cookie
banner, cookie scanning, consent records and policy pages in one plugin.

### The cookie banner does not appear on my site. What should I do?

Please report the issue on the support forum and include your website URL, your
WordPress version (bottom right corner of the dashboard), the browser where the
issue happens, and a description of the problem. The more detail you share, the
faster we can help.

Cookieyes is an easy to use cookie management system that provides the option to
use several cookie banners based on different regulations in different locations–
e.g. EEA vs US. It also offers several implementation options, as well as reporting
options. I recommend Cookieyes.
